Train Travel and the Station
1 April 2024: Just revisited the train station on Monivong and discovered that all the retail businesses have gone and that the waiting area is, again, under refurbishment.
It was not so long ago that the station waiting area was named Royal Train Square with some retail units out front, let to restaurant-connected businesses, etc. Inside, there was a new unit for Wing, but Amazon Café was closed and remains so.
The building is now completely closed and access to the trains and ticket office is round the back near the tracks.
Not sure what they have in mind this time, but I shall await the outcome with considerable interest.

A little bit of history
Phnom Penh Station on Monivong Blvd. at street 110, opened in 1932. However, following decades of problems, not the least of which were experienced during the Pol Pot Regime era, when much of the infrastructure, stations, and tracks were damaged, rail services have consequently been suspended at different times.
Covid and its legacy
Additionally, Covid did not help, and during the Covid pandemic, the airport shuttle was suspended, indefinitely. However, services to Battambang and Sihanoukville, including various intermediate stations, are returning.
Departures
Moreover, daily services from Phnom Penh depart at 6.40am arriving in Battambang at 2pm and the 7am service departs for Sihanoukville, arriving at 12.40pm. Both services make stops at various intermediate stations. The through fare to Sihanoukville is $10 and Battambang is $8. For an additional fee, it may be possible to transport your motorbike, bicycle, or car. Please enquire at your departure station for details.

Train Services in Cambodia
2 March 22 Further update: Although train services in Cambodia are still suffering disruption, work is progressing, nonetheless, on the refurbishment of Phnom Penh’s station building. Under its new name, Royal Train Square, our main images, below, show the “new” exterior at night. Also, the tastefully decorated interior displays some really nice murals. Moreover, shops have opened out front, and it looks as though additional retail outlets are planned for the rear of the waiting room.

2 March 22 update: Currently, the ticket office remains at its new location, outside next to the platform. Moreover, Wing has a new kiosk inside the waiting room. It looks likely that Amazon Coffee will reopen, but ‘will have to wait and see.
