Hungry ?, OK, numerous choices in this city, so no need to suffer.
Vast selection of places to dine out, 24/7. However, I suggest undertaking a little exploring and letting your nose follow the aromas, to discover your desired cuisine.
Tip: When eating at a restaurant, make sure that they have a proper menu with legible prices. I tend to avoid places where the menu came from the ark, with faded photos and untidy crossings out for the prices.
Moreover, take a walk along the riverfront to investigate the roads forming a grid between Sisowath Quay and Norodom Blvd. Streets such as 51, 104, 110, 136 & 172, etc., where you will find a varied selection of bars and restaurants, serving local and Western cuisine, to suit most tastes and budgets.
Dining Out, Phnom Penh: Have you considered the local markets?
One of the joys of being in this part of the world is the vast choice of food. Why travel halfway across the world for baked beans on toast? Many choices of local cuisine in some of the malls such as Aeon and Sorya. Moreover, check out the traditional markets. Usually, a good selection of Khmer dishes at such places as the Night Market, Phsar Kandal, Phsar Timei, and Phsar Chas, to mention but a few.

Dining Out, Phnom Penh: local and traditional food choices
Hungry, in this city ?, I simply don’t believe it. There’s an endless choice between street vendors, fast food outlets & upmarket restaurants. A truly vast selection, providing something to satisfy most tastes & budgets. Nonetheless, do not overlook the many 24/7 mini-marts, with inside/outside seating & some have Wi-Fi.

I think of them as a small oasis, where one can recharge the batteries, so to speak, before setting off down the next street. However, various late-night beer bars & clubs also serve food, to complement an interesting selection of miscellaneous delights. Moreover, consider too, the endless variety of food via delivery companies, such as Grab and Foodpanda, available via their apps. Important, however, to establish both the price and how long it will take for your food to arrive, before confirming your order.

Revisiting my earlier walk 5, updating Freshy Fun Park.
25 June 22: A favorite of mine, is now fully open and provides a good selection of local dishes around the perimeter of a large, colorful, comprehensive fun park
Some of the eateries have “cook on the table” facilities. Pay a set fee for a good selection of meat/seafood and vegetables for you to cook. Excellent for families and perhaps small groups, to socialize while preparing food. Most have a selection of soft drinks and beer etc.
However, when dining alone, I prefer to select from a menu and have dishes brought to my table, ready to eat.
Apart from satisfying your hunger, plenty of entertainment for all, especially children. Entry to the park is free but pay for the rides.
Where is this place?
On foot, you will find “Freshy”, from the city, by crossing the left-hand Changvar Bridge. Look down from the bridge, after crossing the river, and it is clearly visible and accessible via a spiral stairway.
For motorists, leave the city using the right-hand eastbound bridge. At the roundabout, go all the way round, keeping to the right of the entry ramp for the westbound bridge. Take the small surface street, and the park will then be on your right.
Unsure what time they open, but the eateries appear to set up around 6pm and all the rides are ready.

Local cuisine
Plenty of Western choices, but why not sample some local cuisine. Moreover, a great favorite of mine is LOK LAK. This dish comprises beef marinated in various sauces such as soy, oyster, fish & chili with a mix of garlic & vegetable oil. Succulent beef served with lettuce & sliced tomato & a portion of white rice. Set this off with a black pepper & garlic sauce & not forget the fried egg balanced on top of the rice. A very delicious dish, usually inexpensive, available just about everywhere, from posh restaurants to some street-side vendors.

Another favourite of mine, is the national dish, AMOK. Usually with fish but I prefer chicken. It is a curry dish with a mix of mint, ginger, garlic, turmeric, palm sugar & lemongrass, etc. with some variation for chicken or fish. Traditionally, served in a “cup” made from a banana leaf & served with a portion of jasmine rice & maybe a little salad too, really delicious.

However, why not test your taste buds and stomach lining?
Go on, sample such local delights as deep-fried tarantula or flattened-out fried bananas. Mangled squid or grilled frog on a stick. What about duck embryos you can eat straight out of the shell, “pass the tea-spoon, please” Moreover, bugs such as fried crickets and hairy caterpillars, finish off a challenging meal. You may nonetheless, prefer exercising your senses, with a mouthful of pumpkin stuffed with custard!
On consideration, I’ll stick with the fish and chips, if you don’t mind……Any suggestions for what he does with the hammer?

I rather like Olala Restaurant on the riverfront and corner of street 136. I have dined there many times to enjoy a good selection of Western & local dishes, beverages, and hassle-free, pleasant service staff. Moreover, you can sit outside & watch the world go by, or inside, in the air-conditioning, and watch the staff go by…

Dining Out, Phnom Penh, flavours of Cambodia
When in the city, visiting Sorya Mall just 2 minutes south of Central Market, as per the image, usually to shop at Lucky’s Supermarket, you will find the Flavours Of Cambodia eatery. A large open-plan restaurant, see image below, popular with students. Moreover, purchase a ticket & choose from a variety of mostly local dishes. They will, however, refund any unused credit. Furthermore, there are various coffee shops and an endless selection of snacks & beverages in Lucky Supermarket, such as cookies, snacks & juice, etc. Moreover, apart from satisfying your hunger, there are plenty of shops selling all kinds of everything.

These children are not criminals!
Along the riverfront, at restaurants & bars, there are youngsters, far fewer nowadays, selling souvenirs, trinkets, travel guides & flowers, etc. Nonetheless, whatever your views on this activity may be, please always treat them with respect & kindness. Moreover, should you not wish to purchase from them, a simple wave away with your hands is usually sufficient to send them on their way. Otherwise, speak quietly to your waiter or proprietor, well experienced in this matter.
