The Central Post Office, St.13/102

www.fuzzykensblog.comAs with many capital cities, post offices have often been established for a very long time, with some interesting history. Phnom Penh is no exception. We hope that you will find the following to be helpful.

As you may expect, this is the place for postage stamps, registered and recorded letter post, and a range of other services including FAX. Moreover, they have information for stamp collectors.

The Post Office here in Phnom Penh, last year re-introduced an international parcel post service to various countries.

I was quoted for surface delivery of 65000r for a 1 kg parcel, and 353000r for 10kg to Thailand, with delivery in about 10 days. This does not include whatever Thai Customs choose to charge for duty etc. For comparison, a 1kg parcel sent by EMS is about 112000r, plus Thai duty, etc.

However, because various conditions apply, contact the Post Office for prices for specific weight, size, and destination.

Post Covid, postal services are returning to normal although parcel post is only available with EMS. Nonetheless, you can, of course, send important documents, etc. by courier, such as DHL, UPS, and FedEx, and contact details on the internet. If you require a FAX service or the latest information about their intercity minivan passenger transport, ask at the post office for the latest information.

phnom-penh-advice-behavior: Obtaining a POB

Need a Post Office Box (POB)? Enquire about conditions & availability at the Central Post Office. If an item is too large to fit into the box, or if for any reason, it must be signed for, the Post Office will leave a note in your PO box for presentation at the counter. The annual fee for a PO box is currently $16.

On street 164 #34 I found a really helpful shop for photocopies and further along 164, Sokhalay Photo Studio, an excellent place for passport photos.

This branch on street 154, near Central Market

New arrivals, will no doubt wish to get connected. Several choices of telephone & internet service providers to choose from. Moreover, I use Metfone and pay nominal monthly fees for internet access and telephone calls.

Because everyone’s needs are different, contact the companies to find out what service plan best suits your particular needs. However, the Metfone plan I use, allows for hotspot tethering, very useful if local Wi-Fi networks are down, and I need to continue using my laptop online.

Moreover, apart from Metfone, check Cellcard and Smart for what their services offer and charge.
