Should you not already have a place to stay, prebook, especially when arriving late at night, in an unfamiliar town. Might be a little more money, but a good night’s rest, food, and beverage, will set you up for a detailed search the following day.

What! This is not the room I booked
How many have been disappointed, even extremely angry, to discover that the booked accommodation did not match expectations? A bed with a missing leg. TV that could not be turned off. A noisy fan that sounded like a buffalo passing wind & a toilet that failed to flush. Moreover, & sadly, to add to the dilemma, the room door could not be locked from outside or inside.
“It was a very cheap room with “aircon” & laundry services, but creature comforts were difficult to find”

Pigsties, Palaces & Bedbugs
As already mentioned, pre-book if arriving in an unfamiliar town, especially late at night. I consider this to be important if you intend to stay longer than a few nights. Moreover, mid to late morning is often a good time to get a room when guests are checking out. Remember too, that accommodation viewed in daylight, can be quite revealing, but in any event, don’t be afraid to ask to see the room and make sure that it meets your needs.
Tip: For those who wish to be close to the nightlife, and I’m not referring to bed bugs, plenty of choices, for example, around streets 51, 136, and 172.

In a city the size of Phnom Penh, there are thousands of places to stay in the center and suburbs. Pointless to list them all, better to leave that to the experts at any of the booking agencies. Discover super luxury hotels, such as Raffles, as per the image, & the Rosewood Hotel at Vattanac Capital. Guesthouses from $6 per night. Backpacker dormitories and apartments for longer stays. From very expensive to budget-wise accommodation, it’s all here, in Phnom Penh.

Tip: Plenty of online hotel booking companies. I have often used Booking.com Therefore, use your smartphone to search different sites to compare and find the one that best suits your particular needs. However, do be extra careful if some “friendly” individual, tells you about a cheap room around the corner, need I say more?
