Visit Cambodia by air: International flights
22nd June 26: More than twenty international airlines are now established at Phnom Penh’s new airport. However, as yet, there are no direct flights from North America, Australia, or mainland Europe.
Existing airline routings currently require at least one layover at a major Asian or Middle Eastern hub.
However, it can only be a matter of time before long-haul traffic becomes a reality. avoiding layovers in KL, Bangkok or Singapore for example. Apart from bringing tourists directly to Cambodia, there is a vast potential to promote domestic tourism, flights to Laos and other less-known destinations in the region.
Visit Cambodia by air: Currently, the most popular routes and carriers for connecting flights include:
From Europe: Travellers can connect via the Middle East using airlines like Emirates or Etihad (via Abu Dhabi). You can also fly with European carriers like British Airways or Lufthansa and switch to regional Asian airlines (like Singapore Airlines or Malaysia Airlines) at hubs such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Bangkok.
From North America: Airlines such as United, Delta, or Air Canada offer flights to major Asian transit points (e.g., Tokyo, Taipei, or Seoul), where passengers can transfer to partner airlines flying directly into Cambodia.
From Australia: Travellers usually fly with Singapore Airlines (via Singapore) or Malaysia Airlines (via Kuala Lumpur) for seamless connections into Phnom Penh.

Visit Cambodia by air: Using Phnom Penh’s new international airport (TIA)

Now fully operational, replacing the old Pochentong Airport, which opened back in 1924, and is now closed.
The new airport is about 30km south of Phnom Penh. Typical driving time would be in the region of 50 minutes, weather and traffic permitting.
A taxi from/to Phnom Penh city would cost about $40.

Visit Cambodia by air: Using the Airport Express bus

When intending to use the Airport Express Bus for the journey to Phnom Penh, I discovered that there was no signage inside/outside the terminal directing passengers to the Bus boarding point. Coming out of the airport, I was advised to walk straight ahead, keeping the airport directly behind me, for about 15 minutes to cover the ½ kilometer distance to the main road. More by luck than judgement, I discovered the bus stop a short distance off to my right. It is not useful/helpful to have no baggage carts, especially in very hot/wet weather and for passengers with children and a lot of luggage.
