Express City Bus to/from TIA, Phnom Penh’s New Airport
31st October 25: City Bus operate an express service to the airport for 1500 Riel, less than ½$, at about 15-minute intervals throughout the day. Note: you pay the same fare, on the bus, no matter where you board, and you need the exact amount as no change is given.
The service departs from the Old Stadium Roundabout, aka Canon Rifle Roundabout, but currently known as the Kouch Kanong Circle, opposite the French Embassy. I took the bus from here, departing at 11:42am, which arrived at the airport at 12:55pm. It stopped 4 times on the route. First at the University of Health Sciences across the road from Vatanac Capital, then further down Monivong at the Ministry of Social Affairs, close to street 352, then R & F City and onto Aeon Mall 3 and last of all, the airport.
I am puzzled that the Express Bus terminates on the main road, resulting in a good 15-minute walk, with all your luggage and no baggage carts, to the departure building. I am left wondering why the bus does not stop outside the airport terminal building, where tuk-tuks and taxis drop off their passengers.
For the return journey to the city, I searched but could not locate any help point for travellers’ inquiries. I was looking for directions to the Express City Bus pickup point. I asked a couple of security personnel inside the terminal, but they appeared unsure, although one suggested that “I go outside and keep walking.” I feel that a clear sign in Khmer and English, with directional arrows inside/outside the terminal, would be helpful, and luggage carts for the long walk.
Anyhow, I made the long, long walk keeping the airport immediately behind me until I reached the main road. I discovered more by luck than anything else that if you turn right, you come to the bus stop for the Express Bus departures. I boarded the bus at 2:45pm, arriving at the Kouch Kanong Circle at 15:50pm. Journey times may vary depending on traffic, etc.
For guidance, from my hotel on street 182, off Monivong, Passapp indicated 17500 Riel, just under 4½ dollars. However, I suspect that something between $15 and $25 would be required for the entire 30km journey.

Update for Phnom Penh City Buses
On August 3, 2023, I spoke with a driver who informed me that there are currently no printed maps available. However, there is an updated City Bus App that you can download from the Play Store or other app stores. When you open the app, click on “Location” and follow the provided instructions. You may need to register using your name and phone number. It seems functional, but I have not yet tested it thoroughly.

**Long-Distance Bus Services**
As of April 1, 2024, please note that the interprovincial bus station located on Street 217, near Central Market, is still closed. However, there is a ticket desk available where you can purchase tickets, including those for services to Vietnam.
If you are not currently in the city, it is recommended to book your tickets directly online with the various companies that offer bus services.

On April 26, 2023, we learned that a South Korean company plans to donate 1,000 buses to Cambodia. These buses are intended for use in the city and for interprovincial routes. More information will be provided soon, but I have already observed several new models painted bright green.

Fare $35 for the 6-hour trip. However, best check for the latest information and bookings at their website: https://www.giantibis.com

2022 and before CD19
Phnom Penh/Cambodia Buses

13 Nov. 22: The inter-provincial bus station building on street 217, very close to Central Market, remains closed. However, just outside to the right, you will find a desk where you can book and pay for tickets to many destinations. I was quoted 45000r for the ride to Poi Pet using Sorya Express, which uses large buses with flat beds.

12 Nov.22: Virak Buntham has a service to Bangkok via Poi Pet, using a “hotel bus” with flat beds but with a change of bus at the Thai border. Late evening departures from $20. Contact them for full details and fares etc.

11 Feb. 22 Revised app for Phnom Penh City Bus: This upgraded version is said to work faster than the previous one. Download for free via onelink.to/citybus from either the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store. (requires iOS 10.0 or later).

15 January 22: Update for Phnom Penh/Cambodia Buses. Looks like full service on City Bus with revised signs at bus stops. They have installed a partition between the driver and passenger areas so one must enter the bus via the original exit. There is a money box, where you insert the fare through a convenient slot. More to follow, but still unable to get an updated printed map.
Nonetheless, some bus stops have route information. You may, however, need to be quite tall, with good eyesight, to be able to read it, and sometimes through overgrown foliage.

Post Office minivan passenger services update: 15 December 21: Checked at the Post Office and told services still running. We suggest that you go directly to the Post Office to inquire and make bookings. I asked about Kampot and was told that the service runs each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:30am with a one-way fare of $6.50. Please scroll down to our original entry.
Bus services everywhere in Cambodia
5 December 21: I visited the inter-provincial bus station, Phnom Penh Sorya Transport on street 217, very close to Central Market, and found that it remains closed due to Covid.
15 November 2021: Phnom Penh/Cambodia Buses Pleased to say that City Bus is operating again, but maybe with some route and bus number changes. It appears that bus stops have been renumbered. I took a bus from Calmette Hospital down Monivong Blvd. for Central Market, with no change to the fare of 1500r, and as before, the bus was very clean and air-conditioned. Looks like this is a gradual get back to normal. I’ll try to get more details and an updated printed route map.
9 November 21: I have noticed that some City Buses appear to be making a comeback. In particular, around Central Market and Monivong Blvd. Does anyone have any information about this? Perhaps simply blowing the dust out or testing the system.
Phnom Penh/Cambodia Buses

28 August 21: Sadly, the suspension of City Bus services from the 26th of March 20, due to CD19, is still in place. Moreover, there are still no international bus or boat services. Nevertheless, we will update this information as details are announced by the authorities.
Nonetheless, many inter-provincial services are now operating. Check with transport providers for the latest details for your intended journey. Nevertheless, due to COVID-19, things can change rapidly and may be without notice. Always, therefore, check with your service provider.

Important: the following information, which we have decided to leave here for reference, applied to the public City Bus services prior to the COVID shutdown. However, when City Bus returns, we will publish updates & amendments as appropriate.

City Bus drivers now appear to be willing/able to change money to the correct amount for passengers to insert in the box. Not sure whether this is company policy, but I think it will help. Let’s see what happens. Additionally, you get a ticket, as shown below, once you have paid the fare. I’m unsure as to whether this applies to all routes and/or whether it will become a permanent feature.

Sometimes, unclear as to where the buses actually stop. Some stops have a clearly defined shelter, like the one pictured above, whereas others have a map on a pole, sometimes positioned so high up it’s difficult to read, with some partly concealed by foliage. Various stops are indicated by the words “BUS STOP” painted in yellow on the road surface, while others have nothing at all. Moreover, a system indicating stops would help passengers know where they are. However, despite all this, it’s very good value for money.
I recommend downloading the City Bus app “Stops Near Me” Although not the complete picture, it is an invaluable tool for City Bus users, whether you are waiting for a bus or already a passenger. However, when the service resumes, I hope that the app will show road and bus stop numbers.

Important: The following information, which we are leaving here for reference, applied to inter-provincial & international services before the COVID shutdown. However, updates will be published when information becomes available.
Note about inter-provincial bus services
6 Sept.20 For inter-provincial bus services, go to this link:. https://www.camboticket.com/ Lots of useful information about different companies, including prices and making bookings:

Beyond the city, there are many country-wide services, some of which can be booked at Phnom Penh Sorya Transport on Street 217, very close to Central Market. Buses go to the main towns of Battambang, Siem Reap & Poi Pet to the North & others go south to Kep, Kampot & Sihanoukville. Moreover, buses may serve intermediate towns.
You can book the through service, almost 300 kilometres, to Ho Chi Minh City. Visit the ticket office for fares & departure times. Ask about toilet facilities & refreshments on longer journeys. Moreover, those heading to Vietnam should be quite sure about visa requirements, well before booking.
Bus services everywhere in Cambodia
As of 17 Jan. 22: Giant Ibis, another long-distance bus company running a fleet of comparatively new vehicles, currently serving Siem Reap.

Visit their website at www.giantibis.com. Note: I used them once, from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap & overall, was happy with the service.
EMS minivan services are an interesting alternative

However, a little different. If you are going to Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville, Battambang & Poi Pet, the Post Office runs a daily minibus service for EMS deliveries & has provision for passengers as well. However, due to CD19, services may have changed. For up-to-date schedules, go to Facebook at M.Me/CPVIPVAN or to counter 4 at Phnom Penh Post Office on streets 13/102 to make inquiries & bookings.
Update 15 December 21: Post Office confirms services are still running. Not sure about that Facebook link, so suggest you go directly to the Post Office to enquire and make bookings. I specifically inquired about Kampot and was told that the service runs each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:30am with a one-way fare of $6.50
