Passports wherever you travel
Travel to Cambodia, Your Passport is important
Passports wherever you travel
Regardless of your nationality, ensure that your passport is in good condition before travelling. Many countries require your passport to have at least six months of validity remaining and enough blank pages for visas. Most visas occupy an entire page. Additionally, you will not receive a visa if it expires after your passport does. If you have any doubts about your passport’s validity, consider getting a replacement before your trip. To avoid potential issues, it’s also a good idea to obtain replacement bank cards if your current ones are close to expiry.

It’s important to be aware that obtaining a replacement passport or bank cards outside your home country can be challenging, time-consuming, and costly. Additionally, be sure to keep the arrival card that you may receive at immigration, as you will need to present it when you depart. A helpful tip is to staple the arrival card near the entry stamp in your passport for easy access.

Passports wherever you travel. It is your responsibility to ensure the following:
Your passport must be in good condition, with at least six months of validity remaining, and must have enough blank pages for visas and stamps.
What constitutes “Good Condition”? Make sure your passport is not damaged in any way; it should not have torn, discoloured, or missing pages. There should be no water damage, writing, or drawings on any part of it. If your passport has been damaged, it may affect the concealed chip and could lead to issues during travel. Passport control in most countries will conduct thorough inspections, and they have the authority to refuse entry to anyone whose passport does not meet their requirements. In some cases, passport holders may be detained for further questioning.
Additionally, it is vital to ensure that your children’s passports meet all requirements, including issue and expiry dates, as well as any necessary visas.
If you have any questions about whether a passport is acceptable, it’s best to get a replacement.

Passports wherever you travel. If you lose your passport, report to the police without delay
If you lose your passport, report it to the local police immediately. Be sure to obtain a written report, as you may need it when applying for a replacement. It’s also a good idea to keep a photocopy or a digital image of your passport and issued visas on your smartphone in case of loss.
We recommend that UK citizens whose passports have less than 12 to 18 months of validity remaining consider getting a replacement before travelling outside the UK. It is generally not possible to obtain any visa that would be valid beyond your passport’s expiry date

My personal experience with VFS Global
In February 23, I realised that I needed to replace my UK passport before October. This is important because that is when I will apply for my next annual extension of stay. Since my current passport expired in June 24, I would not have been able to obtain the annual extension with it.
Where to go
I recently visited the application centre mentioned above and was able to obtain copies of the application and authorisation forms for payment by bank card, as they do not accept cash. I also gathered information regarding the required photos. I was informed that I must schedule an appointment and bring all completed forms, colour photocopies of every page of my passport (including the unused pages), two photographs, and my passport.
You might be interested to know that at Street 164, #34, I found a great shop for photocopies. Further along the street, there’s Sokhalay Photo Studio, which is an excellent place for passport photos.
With all my documents in hand, I emailed VFS to schedule an appointment. I quickly received a reply with a proposed appointment date, which I confirmed via email. During the appointment, my paperwork was reviewed and accepted. The total cost was $154.63 (approximately 120 British pounds), which I paid by bank card. I learned that my new passport would be ready for collection in June. A few hours later, I received an email from VFS confirming that my application had been forwarded to the UK.
While waiting for my new passport, I cannot travel overseas with my current passport. However, it remains valid for identification purposes.
So far, so good
All in all, a really professional service at VFS, aided by English-speaking staff.
I will provide an update when my passport arrives. The long processing time is due to delays in the UK, not in Cambodia. As of March 17, 2023, I understand that there may be further industrial action affecting UK passport processing, which could cause additional delays in receiving my new passport.
I’m happy to report that my new passport was ready for collection on April 3, 2023, and everything seems to be in order. When I inquired about transferring my current Cambodian visa to my new passport, I learned that this is not necessary. Instead, I can travel with both passports until my current visa expires.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to VFS for their professionalism.
